Slothful, I Am
I have been slothful in blogging. I confess. I could blame it on this past weekend's food poisoning (the culprit being an undercooked sardyelki at a forest outing) or that we've been real busy (but I guess that's a cliche so I won't say that) or that I've had nothing to say (which most of you know that is a lie) or that we have two other church blogs we work on and this one gets kicked down to third place (which is true, by the way) or that the UEC had somebody throw up all over the entrance door and one toilet and we've been busy cleaning that up (which is true) or that the very long days (sun up at about 4:00AM, down by around 10:00PM) keeps you from thinking about the internet. I'll stop my litany there and get to the blog.
Ukraine parliament members last week spent two days wrestling with each other, shoving, pushing, headlocks, WWF stuff, over whether or not Ukraine should join the World Trade Organization. The Communists were rushing the speaker, ripping out several very expensive microphones, bringing bullhorns into the chamber to drown out speakers. It was quite a circus, as they say in Russian. They have gone into recess for the summer with some of the WTO legislation passed. The government has continued to loosen visa restrictions for many countries.
On the home front, Lena has been GMATing, going to Zhitomir to help with the baby, and doing some auditing work at the UEC, and while I haven't been recovering from food poisoning, I've been doing my regular ministry work and administrative work. One lady from my English class has asked to study the Bible with me so that's very exciting. Please pray for Victoria.
Lyuda continues to work on the improvements on her house. This week they are ripping up the rotted out kitchen floor. Heating pipes have been extended into the toilet so we are very happy about that improvement.
We also had a very good planning meeting for Cherkassy Conference, our 8th conference. About ten people came to the meeting and we planned the schedule and worked out some administrative details.
We also have, unfortunately, been addressing some immorality issues in the church and have had two special Monday night teaching sessions on those subjects. We are issuing a statement on things like cohabitation and sex before marriage. It's going to be difficult for some people as they have to choose to repent or not. Please pray for all of us as we walk through this valley together.
The aquarium is fine but we need to buy a new filter pump. The old one is getting so loud it keeps me awake at night. Anyway, we haven't forgotten about our blogger friends and will work on being more regular in our posting.
