Finally--Friday!

Today I enjoyed talking with a lady whom we met through Let's Start Talking. We talked for about 2.5 hours and plan to do so every Friday. Hope I don't drive her nuts!!

Lena learned earlier in the week that she was admitted to Harding University and will start her first on-line class later in the fall.

We celebrated two birthdays this week at the UEC--Igor Ouglev and Dima Zhyvov. We bought a cake for each celebration. The first was the classic Kyivsky--a butter topped crunchy cake that's something like wafers but isn't. Tonight I found a cherry cake that was priced 18 hryvnya per kilo. I crazily assumed that was the price of that cake. Of course, it wasn't. That cake weighed 1.7 kilos. Got it anyway. We had about 25 people tonight for our combined cell meeting and enjoyed eating that cake! Along with some sausages, mashed potatoes, and salad. The classic Ukrainian meal.

I also spent some time today working on studying some difficult passages in the Bible. Sometimes I get frustrated because I don't know Greek. I guess I am going to have to start wrestling with that monster.

We are thinking about going to Oktoberfest tomorrow. It's Kyiv's third and I am just hoping for some real German sausages and a fresh pretzel. I am afraid to go for fear I will be disappointed.

I'm preaching again this Sunday. Any sermon ideas, anybody?

The parliament yesterday voted for the second time on the new prime minister and he was confirmed. He's a moderate, something of a technocrat, so most feel it will be good for the country, to sort of de-politicize the prime minister's office for now. Unfortunately, the party associated with Yanukovich (the guy who tried to steal the election last year) signed an "agreement" with Yushchenko just before the second vote, an agreement to end political repressions and for a fair election in March. Whatever that means. Has Yushchenko betrayed Maidan and the millions who cried "foul" at last year's stolen election? We'll see.
