God blesses us for his pleasure, not just for our own. The new job, the raise, the bonus, the income above and beyond what is actually, really needed. These are for his pleasure. He delights in watching us use what he has given to help the peoples of the earth learn of his love, mercy, and righteousness. He finds great pleasure when the blessed ones bless others so that those people groups who do not yet know of his sovreignty will one day shout out in praise--Allelujah! The Lord Almighty reigns!
There are 4,000 languages in the world that have no translations of the Scriptures. There are some 2.59 billion people in the world who do not have any kind of Christian presence among them. It's believed that 2.7% of Ukraine's population is "evangelical Christian."
Much has been accomplished. But there is much work to be done.
Think about your church's missions budget. Do you know where the dollars go? Is careful and prayerful consideration given to where these dollars go? What percentage of the missions budget (excluding short-term missions) goes for evangelism, church planting, leadership development, and development in unreached nations? From year to year, does that amount go up or down? But besides the dollars, how are you and the church you are a member of responding to the dynamic changes in American society, the complex diversification taking place across the landscape? Is there a place of entry in your church for Hispanic agricultural workers, international students, Asian immigrants?
For my Kyiv readers, there is much work to do. Let's be encouraged by what God has done among us and believe that He will continue to cause righteousness and praise to spring up among us.
