Sunday Sanity

Somehow, Sundays always bring a little sanity into my life. I think it's the ritual of going to church, of knowing that a new week is beginning, of thinking that somehow things will start anew.

This Sunday we made another UEC presentation, this time at Obolon church in the north central part of the city. It's the oldest Church of Christ and certainly has its own character. I guess they have about 90 members. There's an idea to buy a new meeting place and we got caught in the middle of a heated debate at the end of the service about whether or not they should spend money on a new building. Fortunately, we escaped unscathed but it prevented us from talking personally with people about the UEC. It was nice, though, to see several of my old ICU students, many are married and having babies. Zhenya, Joe's body building friend, looked about the same. I guess he will never age.

I finished my series on Christian leadership at Nivki church. During the prayer requests, someone asked to pray for their sick dog. The dog's name is Chris. That's not the first time for a sick dog request. I wonder what theologians do about sick animal prayer requests. I don't think they cover that in seminary. Otherwise, the church was excited to hear about the June conference we are having for seekers. Please pray about that and the team coming from Knoxville to help us fund it. I also challenged everyone to start praying for one non-believer and hopefully God will enable them to come to the conference.

Serhiy Ilutsa dined with us tonight at Vesuvios, a hole-in-the-wall pizze place. Prices are higher and the crust is thinner. Service was bad as always. The Radisson Hotel just around the corner looks like it's about finished though.

Please pray for Zhenya. He's got some important interviews coming up.

There was a lady at my church who used to ask for prayers for her dog all the time. She also sometimes asked for prayers for a leaking skylight.
