Today I walked around and around the neighborhood surrounding the UEC as I talked with a good friend. We went down some alleys and other places I usually don't walk. We found some places just came to a dead end. In others, there were locked gates, locked fences, walls that seemed to have no purpose for being there. We enjoyed walking through the wet, yellow leaves that have fallen to the ground. Though some of the talk was difficult, it was great not just sitting in one of the UEC's rooms. I hope I can do this a few more times before the snow and ice blanket the city's sidewalks.
Tonight Misha gave a short talk about the passing of the baton from Elijah to Elisha. It was so great to hear him give this little teaching. He used to be so nervous just to come to church. He was reluctant to pray or to help lead a cell meeting. But he has just kept growing. For a long time, he seemed to always want to check his beliefs with someone or would say that he didn't know much about the Bible. But now, without any coaching, he gave a great talk. I am so proud of so many in Nivki church who serve in so many different ways. We are trying to practice the priesthood of believers as described in Scripture. Not just say we believe and then let the "professional priest" do all the work. We are trying to live it.
I am thankful to God for his blessing on this desire to honor his word.
UPDATE: Yesterday, they turned off our hot water, so I went to the UEC to take a shower. Well, I had too much to do and too many little conversations so I didn't get to. I got up today (Thursday), hoping to find the hoter water but no such luck. And they also turned off the heat during the middle of the night. No wonder I woke up freezing. It's also raining today and supposed to be below freezing tonight. Our computer messed up when we installed a new antivirus program and now can't use it. I am at the Center typing and in a bad mood.
God, deliver me from myself, my greatest temptation--to do what my flesh wants.
Thursday Update: Since I didn't manage to get a shower yesterday, and with still no hot water, I went to the UEC to shower. Lena had gone there before me to do the same, and upon arrival she commented that it wasn't very warm. So I waited more than an hour and the thermostat indicated the water in the hot water heater was actually colder. What was going on? Seems we turned the water heater way down for the summer break and never turned it back up. So finally, about 6:30, I got a shower. Praise the Lord. And it was warm.

Nothing worse then no hot water for bathing in a cold apartment. Years later I tense up just thinking about it. My parents did not have hot water for years.
The weather got cold here too. We are not turning the heat much during the change though, letting the autumn sun slowly warm up the house. The other night I got in bed and just kept saying "Thank you, God!" over and over in joy over the comfort of smooth sheets and fluffy down and many pillows (Ken was staying up late working, so he was not in on this). Man, I do love a comfortable bed. I get in a pretty rotten mood without it and especially a hot shower.
I do hope that you get hot water (and heat)soon.
