And They're Off

It's Monday and so a new week begins. Sunday was a pretty good day. We got more snow Sunday night, several inches actually. And you can feel the cold in your bones. The old, huge green jacket came out of the closet today. This morning I went with Lena to the Polish consular to pick up their visas. We then bought the train tickets. I had to stand in line for a while at a bank to exchange money. Only one person could handle that transaction and that's what everyone was wanting to do. There are people in Ukraine who are sort of professionals at standing in line. It's a part of the national consciousness. Lena went on to the train station kassa. Several parts of the tickets have to be written out by hand so it takes quite a while. It could take 2-3 hours to buy a ticket if the line is long. Fortuntately, the line formed after we showed up. Sergiy told me tonight of once where he spent the whole day once buying train tickets to Germany. We can only buy one-way tickets, so when we get to Krakow, we will immediately buy return tickets. It will take about 2 minutes and we will pay with a credit card. Though so many things have changed in Kyiv, some things move about as rapidly as a glacier.

Tomorrow is the first anniversary of the Orange Revolution. There will be some concerts and speeches downtown tomorrow. Hope to be able to check it out.

Lena has a new picture of Polina for us.
