Lena and I went to the local Christian bookstore tonight and found them open. I guess they finished their three-day inventory of last week. There were still piles of books everywhere. They had expanded some but still a lot of junk (just like Christian bookstores in the USA :)). This one carries a little of everything. We found two new Philip Yancey translations so we always welcome those and some new reference materials. We bought for Lena's mom and the UEC.

We also enjoyed the Soup Group today. I included some very thick spaghetti-type noodles which made eating the soup quite fun. We had a long and great discussion about dating and marriage. Always exciting. And we learned a lot about one girl who is coming Olya, a student at the Aviation University. I was confused about who she was and now have a better idea of our need to reach out to her. And then we had questions about double meaning in prophecy, the Immanuel of Isaiah 7 and whether Jesus rode a colt or donkey into Jerusalem during the passion week.

Sergiy is still sick so we are behind some in our work at the UEC. We are currently developing a fundraising plan for donors in Kyiv. How do you nurture philanthropy in a post-Soviet nation? I guess we are going to find out, mostly through making mistakes rather than doing it right. At least we are going to try!!! After 5 years of operations, we feel it's time for the Center to begin the process of encouraging financial support to come from our "alumni" and those with a little extra money. Hopefully, the good we will have extended to more than 3,000 registered patrons will slowly come back to us so that we don't have to be so dependent on US support.

Then, we keep getting distracted by the election results. So far, 92% of the votes have been counted. Still too close to call for one party. More than 800,000 people voted for the Communists. Fortunately, pro-western forces have won. Now they are feuding about how exactly power will be shared. Tymoshenko met with the president for 1.5 hours today, the first they had met since he fired her from her job as prime minister. He also met will all the other winners. The Socialists are ready to work with Tymoshenko but the president and his party seem reluctant. They have a month to form a majority from the time the official results are announced which will probably be at least another week.

It's finally warm in Kyiv!!!!! Well, warm compared to -5 F!
