Airport Saga Continues

I think I slept about 2 hours in the airport. Lena slept a bit more. I finally figured out that I could stretch my legs out onto the luggage cart, turn at a slight angle, rest on my left side, and with myself resting at a 45 angle, I could almost not be completely miserable. Eventually it seems exhaustion took over (especially since I hadn't been able to sleep much the night before we left Kyiv) and I fell asleep. Fortunately, the Germans had designed this "rest area" so that the lights were never dimmed and my favorite part was how the flooring there was covered in some sort of raised plastic stuff so that each time a luggage cart or one of those little golf carts in airports came whizzing by the sound was incredibly amplified, to the point that once I woke up and thought a train was coming.

Morning did come. Breakfast at McDonalds and armed with a 15-euro food voucher we "enjoyed" a croissant and some fruit, and of course, Diet Coke. We had been re-ticketed on USAirways and had not been promised seats on this flight to Charlotte, NC. We got to the area before gates had been assigned, found an airline counter, and the agent told us to get in a security line. We did and waited. The security agent then asked us who told us to get in line. We then went to her only to be informed that this line was not for Charlotte but other flights. Yet again, misdirection from the airlines. Finally, we made it to the right line, more standing, and screening and ticketing from a wonderfully stereotypical German lady. No matter what people think, you do occasionally encounter living stereotypes. Of course, it's only our impression from a brief encounter and there is much more to the person than your brief encounter. Finally, we made it to a plane! Praise the Lord. We looked forward to the on-flight entertainment and to be able to sit down comfortably. Yes, the airplane chairs were more comfortable than the airline chair.

I concur! I had to layover in LAX for 27 hours on my last trip out. The airline gave me a hotel voucher, but believe it or not, the airport seating was more comfortable than the bed in the hotel! :o\ But at least I got a shower.
