Nashville--Day 1
We drove to Nashville today. And though the Prills didn't expect us for supper, we showed up as they were eating. Nevertheless, we weren't hungry and went to church. We enjoyed the small crowd gathered for the Bible study, and Paul treated us to some kind of Baha place or something near the old 100 Oaks Mall. It still unnerves me to go into restaurants, especially busy ones. And this one was busy, even late in the evening. I find reading the huge menus very disorienting. I typically want to stand and read everything on the menu, ask questions, and then deliberate my decision as if I am buying a major household appliance. But there is no time. Just get in line, make a decision, and then there is plenty of time to regret it while you are eating. My favorite part is the look on the faces of people trying to serve you or take your order when they see that you have no idea what you want or even how to say it. I had to ask Prill what a "tortilla" is just because I could not remember what it is. (May God help us as we move to west Texas!--I guess I will have to start Spanish classes along with my koine Greek, theological German, and the Russian I am trying to keep alive).
We did manage to eat and that was the main thing. And free refills. What more can you ask.
On the trip over, it got so hot in the car I thought I was going to pass out. Since we aren't yet too familiar with how air conditioning is supposed to function, I just kept thinking that it's too hot for the car air conditioner to keep up. I eventually decided I had to lower a window or I would pass out. Now, we think something is wrong with the air conditioner. Alas. Sigh. If it weren't so hot, I wouldn't care.
I also used this gas map to find the cheapest gas on our route. $2.75 a gallon as opposed to the $2.98 a gallon we saw today in Nashville.
And for those who are interested in my carbonated drinking habits, today I started a twelve pack of Diet Cheerwine, not one of the more popular diet beverages but I have enjoyed the first can.
I have read about 100 pages on perfectionism. Maybe more on that later.
