Half Way

About half way through the week. Hope yours is going well. We enjoyed Sunday night with several friends from church.


Two more church members are leaving for the States to work this summer--Oly to Vermont and Vitya to Texas. We've been very busy at the summer with lots of new donations that came in with the Laurel group and from others. We are also developing some new projects. Our computer genius Anton, who is going to Budapest to work on a master's degree, made a major improvement to our search engine for our library collection. We are now looking into developing a website for our library patrons.

Lena is still GMAting and I am pluggin along at this church planting course. My English class met tonight and we had some more new faces, I think. It's hard to keep up with all the comings and going. At least I am gathering a large pool of people we will hopefully figure out a better way to serve in the fall. Our spiritual gifts class met on Monday and it went very well. I am working with a very small number of people encouraging them to find ways to use their gifts to benefit the whole church and not just their small group. Three of our cells met together tonight at the UEC and had a big crowd. As more people leave for vacations and being out of Kyiv, those numbers will dwindle. Soon our two Sunday assemblies will join together for combined worship in mid July and August.

Next week we have another holiday, Constitution Day. People have already been asking if the UEC will be open. I still can't quite grasp why there are so many holidays that are official days off. For this holiday, people will work Saturday so they can be off Monday and Tuesday. Guess how much work will get done on Saturday? Since many places won't recognize the holiday, they won't work on Saturday but will work on Tuesday. So the whole country will slow down for about 5 days because no one is working at the same time.
