Only in Ukraine
Yesterday I saw red caviar-flavored potato chips. I also saw a two-litre of Cola Light for $1.32. Incredible. Summer prices. We have been living in "zhara." There is no English word to describe it. "Heat wave" I guess but it doesn't do justice to the intensity and thoroughness of the heat. And the nationwide general lack of air conditioning.
We also enjoyed fresh Turkish baklava (sp?) at our small group meeting last night thanks to Oleg and a co-worker who had just been to Turkey. It was incredible.
Anya Shvachko's mother Olya came to our group last night. Anya is now in New Jersey but it's been exceptional to see her mom's faith grow. We were shocked that she came to the meeting. It's so difficult for older people to come to faith. But there it was, faith growing. Praise the Lord, the Lord who remains sovereign and unexplainable.
Natalya, who is suffering from cancer, says she is feeling better. Please keep praying for her since they aren't sure how to proceed with her treatments. Pray for her doctor, too.
We are planning a significant library change at the UEC over the weekend. Pray all goes well! More shelf space for all those Christian books!
