Crisis Resolved?

It seems the prime minister, after opposing early elections for several weeks, has agreed to go to the polls. A working group is supposed to announce the date for the new election. This agreement follows the president's firing two Constitutional Court judges in what may have been an attempt to disable a court quorum. So maybe the crisis is over for now. The real fun begins after the elections.

Yesterday we were finally able to make an appointment with the US embassy for Lena's visa interview. I think we spent about 4 hours on hold or dialing. Not pleased with the embassy or their new Call Center right now. Anyway, the appointment is June 11. She should have her visa in hand one week or so after the appointment. Tentatively we are set to leave July 1, my mother's birthday.

The season of holidays is about to return. After working for two days, some will have another long weekend through May 9, Victory Day which celebrates the end of World War II. There aren't many veterans left. If you were 20 years old when the war ended, you would be 82 or so. Life expectancy for men in Ukraine is less than 70.

We are working at the UEC tonight since Lera is sick. In the middle of the next newsletter and expanding the library some. My English outreach started back today only to be put on hold again. Crazy times. And it's cold. I am still wearing a hat and winter coat.

And finally, a thank you to all our supporters. For those who have stuck with us through 8 years, some for 11. Thank you. The journey is not over yet but now that the end of this phase is in view, I just want the financial donors to know that we are thankful for your partnership.

Sounds like it's crisES resolved--Ukraine's getting their elections lined up just as you two are getting your travel plans arranged. Congratulations and we look forward to having you stateside.

Kenneth.
