Weekend Wonders

It was finally warm enough this weekend to take a stroll, a wonderful pastime in our fair city. We perambulated about Marinsky Park which is also home to Ukraine's parliament building, across the street from the Cabinet of Ministers building, and Dynamo's football/soccer stadium which was filled with police anticipating the arrival of fans for an afternoon game.

The park has also sheltered the protesters who were paid to protest by the Party of the Regions, the political party which supports the prime minister and stronger ties with Russia as well as a handful of powerful industrial oligarchs (rather, they support the Party of the Regions). Their tents were still there as were a few tents of the Communists.

As I was being photographed with the Communists, a press conference was taking place in front of the Cabinet of Ministers directly across from us. The working group of the political parties had just finished a meeting to discuss the conditions for the new election (now it looks like they will be in the fall). I could see the head of Bogatirova, the head of the Party of the Regions. Tymoshenko came out and just got in her Mercedes to go to her headquarters. Too bad we missed her.
