Wanna Lite Up?

It may get harder to lite up in Ukraine. The parliament today passed a law on its first reading that would make smoking illegal at work and in many public places, excluding certain designated areas (I have a feeling those places will be larger than the places it's illegal to smoke). The law also bans advertising on radio, TV, print, and anything aimed toward young people. More warnings will have to go on packaging and no cigarettes will be allowed to be labeled as "light." The bill was backed by Victor Yuschenko's Our Ukraine party. I am very interested to see how all that's going to work. It's almost like trying to stop Americans from drinking soft drinks.

My second English class met today. Little Vlad didn't come. Maybe he will show up on Thursday. But three new people did join us and we had a wonderful time discussing nationality and geography. Just warming up for the rough stuff to come.

The new video cabinets arrived today to make storage of our growing video collection a little easier to manage. Another small victory for the UEC staff!!

Restaurants and bars in Connecticut have been smoke-free for a couple of years now. It's such a relief to be able to go out to eat without worrying about your lungs.

Well, exCYUUUUse me. I'll not try to translate/transliterate any Russian in the future.

(But I'm pretty sure I have actually seen the sign I tried to reproduce above....)

Nice, Chris. The ghost of Zhanna will haunt you.
But I still got the ending wrong.
