Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving! For several years, I haven't cooked Thanksgiving dinner. This year, I am compromising. I decided to cook but not a turkey. Well, we found two turkey legs in a store and I am going to throw that in with the stuffed chicken and see how that works. What's on the menu? My aunt's old, old, old pumpkin pie. Mmmmmm. I bought some pumpkin chunks from a lady selling them off the sidewalk near our building. I also bought a jar of freshly-picked cranberries. We are all organic around here. $2 for the cranberries and tonight I made a surprisingly delicious cranberry chutney with apricots, raisins, apple, ginger, etc. I also decided to make calcannon, an Irish potato cabbage dish. Maybe some cornbread. Probably a tomato-cucumber salad. Not much on vegetable dishes. We are pretty much out of the fresh vegetable season. I think Bogdan and Cassandra are bringing some sweet potatoes if they found them in their luggage. I am at least hoping for it.

I love Thanksgiving. I love the pilgrims and the myth of that first Thanksgiving. Cultural myths are created to comfort and that story comforts me. I think it anticipates the great banquet feast that God is preparing for all the elect.

We also finished watching the first season of Lost tonight. I got it for my birthday. WHAT IS IN THE HATCH????? Don't tell us, Marcus. We plan to get season two somehow.

........ We enjoyed the Thanksgiving meal. No sweet potatoes, though.
