Back.....

We are back. The flights went fine. Lena did a great job packing and basically we got to bring everything we packed. United's food was good, except for the paltry breakfast. Apparently, these rules about liquids on planes are being enforced cursorily, or without much consistency. Getting on the international flight in Washington (to Frankfurt) was like getting on any other flight. In Amsterdam when we flew to Detroit, we were interviewed, liquids were examined, and screened just before getting on the plane, and photo ID check with boarding pass. In the US, it was just--Welcome aboard!! They did take up boarding passes, at least. So I am not sure how this war on terror is supposed to be working? And the flight from Frankfurt to Kyiv didn't merit any checking or screening either. Flights within the European Union do. Apparently, they are more important, or more at risk??, than other flights. Whatever.

It snowed a lot last night and if I knew where the camera was, I would take some pictures. I have an earache and a cough. I hope this doesn't get worse. We woke up at 5.30AM. I hope this jet lag doesn't eat me alive. I haven't had an earache since childhood so I am not sure what to do with it.

Things seem to be pretty slow here in Kyiv. Natalya, the lady in our church who has suffered so much this year, was recently told that she has another cancerous tumor, possibly two. The treatment this time is going to cost $2,200. Her other rounds of chemotherapy she has been able to pay for or the church has been able to give a lot to help. But this is too much for what the church treasury has now. Vitaly has made an appeal to church members to contribute. Please pray for us that we will be able to raise these funds. Basically, the doctors said if you can get the money you will get the treatment. If she doesn't get the money, no treatment. On Sunday, church members will hopefully give extra funds to help with these costs. Her family has basically run out of money because of the on-going costs of her cancer treatment over the last 2 years.

If any blog readers would like to help, please email me at ribki2ATgmail.com.
