Another World Cup Victory

Thursday Lena went to Zhytomir. She finished her two classes and the next starts in two weeks. Thus, she headed out to see the family. And it was a hot ride to Zhytomir for her since we are finally starting to have warm weather, very warm. Well, at least warm compared to what we had been having. I hung around the UEC a bit, tried to tell Vitaly some about our banking system, and taught my English class. This week, two of the girls returned, but then they told me they were all mostly planning to be gone for the next two weeks as did Alesha who comes on Tuesday nights. I also learned that Ira and her friends aren't going to be able to meet for the Lewis group we were planning to have for outreach to her friends. So it seems all the outreach for the summer is pretty much dead in the water for July and August. I expected as much. There's just nothing that can be done about it, really.

Today we enjoyed a good talk with Oksana about her future. Six church members are graduating from university this June. One will be studying in Hungary and the others are still thinking. Most will be working in Kyiv--we hope. Next weekend begins the graduation season though some universities have already had theirs. Graduation has only recently become a big deal here. It used to be that entering a university was the big deal. Now, some more attention is paid to completing the degree. In the Soviet Union, it was sort of assumed that if you entered, of course you would graduate.

Ukraine beat Tunisia 1-0 and will advance to the next round of play. Several church members met at Vitya's to watch the game and then come to the cell meeting. Fortunately, the game ended at 7 PM so they weren't late since he lives across the street from the UEC.
